Jeep
Tops – Soft
Tops, Hard Tops
and Everything
in Between |
Going topless. It’s part of the allure that compels thousands of people each year to buy a Jeep. But when the winter months roll around and it’s time to put the top back on, which do you choose?
We’ll give you a head start by reviewing a few of the more popular options for topping off your rig this winter.

Jeep Hard Tops – A Solid Choice for any Jeep
For the ultimate in weather protection, sound dampening and overall security, you can’t beat a hard top. Today’s factory Jeep hard tops feature integrated wipers, washers, dome lights and more. Some, like the new JK hard tops, even incorporate removable sections that allow you the freedom to quickly remove and reinstall large panels for summer driving.
If
your Jeep doesn’t currently have a hard top and you’re looking for one, there are quite a few aftermarket options that perform just as well or better than the factory models. |
|
Bestop makes a one-piece fiberglass hard top that incorporates many factory features as well as a few you won’t find on an OEM hard top. The Bestop model offers rear vents for flow-through air circulation, integrated rain channels, rear window defroster, factory-grade headliner, overhead mesh storage pockets, gas-charged tailgate shocks and DOT approved tinted glass. |
|
Also
available
from Bestop
is their
two-piece
fiberglass
top. This
model incorporates
all the same
features
as the one-piece
top, including
rear window
defroster,
factory-grade
headliner,
overhead
mesh storage
pockets and
gas-charged
tailgate
shocks. But
also features
a
removable
front cab
cover for
summer driving.

Jeep Soft Tops – Flexible Solutions for any Climate
Jeep soft tops are popular for a myriad of reasons. For starters they cost a fraction of a hard top. They’re also more versatile thanks to today’s innovative soft top systems that allow many different configurations from fully topless to zip out windows, flip tops and more. |
|
One of the most popular aftermarket soft tops available is the Bestop Replace-A-Top. This top is designed to replace worn or damaged factory soft tops and fits perfectly over your stock frame. Features like heat-sealed windows and seams, 18 oz Haartz fabric and large #10 zippers make this one of the best tops available. |
|
Another top designed to replace your factory model is the Pavement Ends Replay Top. Here again the Replay is designed to work with your existing factory soft top frame. One of the nice features on this top is the zip-out side and rear windows. This particular kit also includes upper half door skins. |
|
Yet another entry into the factory soft top replacement category is the Garage Pro Replacement Soft Top. This top utilizes existing factory hardware and incorporates popular features like zip-out windows and a patented Tuck-Under attachment system. Like the Pavement Ends model, the Garage Pro kit also includes upper half door skins. |
|
If your Jeep doesn’t have factory soft top hardware or you simply want to replace the whole setup, Bestop’s Supertop is great option. The Supertop includes all necessary hardware along with the fabric top, including zip-out windows and patented Belt-Rail attachment system. The Supertop kit is available with soft doors and without. |
|
This is one of my favorite options in aftermarket soft tops. The Pavement Ends Flip Top is, much like the name implies, a soft top with a flip up top over the driver’s compartment. The Flip Top comes with all necessary mounting hardware, including full bow system and framed upper doors. |
|
For older Jeeps like the Willey’s and vintage CJ’s, Bestop makes the Tigertop. The Tigertop is a great option for bringing new school performance to your old school Jeep. |
|
If your back seat has been replaced by tools, stereo equipment or an aftermarket gas tank, the Bestop Halftop could be just the thing for you. Made from premium-quality fabric, the Halftop combines a half cab soft top with a duster-style cover for the rear of your Jeep. This model features a fold-back sunroof over the driver’s compartments and zip-out vinyl windows. |
