Recall Notice: Chrysler has issued a recall for over 800,000 Jeep Liberty vehicles from 2002 through 2006. The recall involves a failure in the front ball joints. Extreme cases have resulted in the vehicle actually dropping onto the front tires. To date, Chrysler has received 110 complaints regarding the ball joint failure—three of which resulted in injuries.

Would the defective ball joints cause uneven wear of tires? Pulling to one side. Not sure if I need an alignment or just replace the ball joints.
I recently experience with my Jeep liberty 2003 the failure with the front ball joints leaving the tire flat of the road. This happen 5 days after taking the vehicule for a 30 thousand mile check and the dearler never told me about the recall and did not check it. They will repair my vehicule but how can they retore a body injury or death due to this deffect.
My 2002 Liberty’s right front balljoint broke in half, which caused front tire to lock up. Fortunately I was just making a left hand turn on a backroad in Atlanta, GA.
I had just returned from a driving trip to Florida, and count my lucky starts this did not happen while moving down the road @ 70+ mph.
Get the recalls done! This could save a life, for sure!!!!!! Diamler-Chrysler reimbursed me for the repairs…Gin
I have a 2002 jeep liberty and I never heard anything or recieved any info on my jeep recall. How or who do i contact for this.
Hi Jr,
Just contact your local Jeep dealer and they should be able to give you all the appropriate information on the recall.
Within (2) weeks of having the lower ball joint replaced due to recall, the upper ball
joint front completely snapped off. Is there something particular about the upper that makes it different from the lower? How can you recall just the lower front and not the upper? I reported the dealership for not even mentioning it to me to Chrysler, said he didnt notice, recall only called for checking and replacing the lower; of cause they were not responsible for individual dealerships,( though they sale their vehicles). And the recall only specifies lower….hmmm, recall at a time! Checking online I’ve found there were other reports as mine, guess no one died yet, maybe.
So, we’ll wait until theres a death for the rest of us to drive safely.
This is the second my Jeep Liberty window is falling down into a door, should this not be recalled by JEEP?
You would think it should be, I had the same thing happen to me. I have a second window that is currently in need of repair. Unfortunately, being a single mom I dont have the funds to get it fixed. It even did soemthing to the child protection lock that I cant even open the door either.
This is my 5th event with ball joints …three times now (3!) the wheel has collapsed under the liberty! This time, the upper ball failed and Chrysler Service is declining to repair the ball joint..even though I pointed out a recall notice for uppers dated April 9,09! The service contact (somewhere in India)doesn’t return calls or give any satfisfaction. Dealer has not been too helpful either & my jeep is 150 miles away where it broke down..that dealer didn’t sell it & has little empathy. wish me luck…
My husband and I bought a 2002 Jeep liberty limited edition form a used car dealer, but we knew
who had owned it prior to us, they traded it in at Bessemer chrysler jeep, they, then the dealer sold it to the used car dealer. several months later we were in Tennesse and the jeep started
making this squeeking noise done it the whole weekend, it stopped the day we left to go home
that was the middle of March. I took it to the dealer they said it was the strut. A few weeks later
when I had the oil changed the guy said it was the strut. I then told the dealer he said it had already been replaced when it was recalled. It is now 7-20-09 and I just got off the interstate and a mile later pulled in driveway and the driver side fell the ground, recalled strut broke!
