Discover Fall Wheelin’ with the Jeep Jamboree

Fall is one of the best times of year to break out your Jeep and hit the trails. And Jeep Jamborees are a fun way to go off road, meet some cool people and generally have a good time. Most Jamboree events are short weekend adventures that feature trail ratings from mild to wild.

Jeep Jamborees date way back to 1953 when 4×4 pioneer Mark A. Smith organized the first-ever Jeep Jamboree and voyaged across the Sierra Nevada Mountains by way of the old Rubicon Trail. In 1954, Willys Motors — then manufacturer of Jeep vehicles — became involved with the adventure, and Jeep Jamborees have been an off-road tradition ever since.

Here’s a schedule of upcoming events for fall of 2007:

20th Ouray Jeep Jamboree Sept. 14-16, 2007 - Ouray, CO
12th Northwoods Jeep Jamboree Sept. 28-30, 2007 - Crandon, WI
18th Maine Mountains Jeep Jamboree Sept. 28-30, 2007 - Bethel, ME
24th Appalachian Jeep Jamboree Oct. 12-14, 2007 - Murphy, NC
18th French Lick Jeep Jamboree Oct. 12-14, 2007 - French Lick, IN
14th Gateway to the Cumberlands Jamboree Oct. 19-21, 2007 - Williamsburg, KY
9th Moab Jeep Jamboree Oct. 19-21, 2007 - Moab, UT
1st Salton Sea Jeep Jamboree Oct. 26-28, 2007 - Salton Sea, CA
18th Ouachita Jeep Jamboree Oct. 26-28, 2007 - Hot Springs, AR

Get a FREE Cleaning Kit with your K&N Filter Purchase

If you’re in the market for a K&N filter Performance Products is offering a free cleaning kit with the purchase of any K and N filter. Check it out here.

K&N 57 Series FIPK

* 50-State legal
* Up to 15% more power

K&N’s Fuel Injection Performance Kits, (FIPK’s), replace your power-robbing factory air box with an open element, 360-degree conical filter. A special sheet-metal baffle (when needed) isolates hot underhood air from being sucked in by your engine. It is connected to a smooth-flowing, heat-resistant composite intake tube that rejects heat and attaches to your engine’s intake system. The result: smooth laminar airflow and a cooler, denser charge of air for maximum power and efficiency.

K&N 63 Series Intake Systems

* Street Legal in most states (not street legal in California)
* Up to 15% more power

The same advanced technology that goes into K&N’s FIPK Intakes goes into its Airchargers. In fact, many Airchargers are 57 Series FIPKs that are just awaiting CARB certification. Emissions-legal in most states, K&N’s Airchargers are an excellent way to add more performance to your Truck or SUV.

K&N 77 Series Intake Systems

* Polished aluminum intake tube

For those who want the performance of K&N’s FIPKs with a show-style polished aluminum intake tube, K&N offers its 77 Series Intake Systems. Designed to replace your restirctive factory filter and airbox, the 77 Series intake features a mandrel-bent aluminum tube for smooth, unrestricted airflow. A black powder coated steel heat shield isolates the 360-degree K&N conical filter from underhood heat. Additional K&N standard features include reinforced silicone attaching hose and stainless steel barrel clamps.

Jeep And Chrysler Doing Well Across The Pond

by: Al Oberm
Chrysler may be feeling some pain in the USA, but overseas they are realizing some excellent results. According to a Chrysler spokesperson, international sales are up 14 percent through August of 2006 with 15 straight months of month-to-month increases. The news is even better in Western Europe. Chrysler reported an increase of 35.6% in August 2006 compared with the performance from a year ago, and a sales increase of 15.5% for the year-to-date through August 2006. According to JATO Dynamics, a market information company, Jeep sales were up 25% in Europe through August compared to 2005, much of the increase due to the excellent performances of the new Grand Cherokee and Commander. These impressive sales results have made Chrysler the second fastest growing automotive group in Europe, second only to Fiat, and Chrysler predicts that international sales will account for 9% of total sales by 2007.

Looking at the sales numbers it’s easy to see why the folks at Chrysler were excited about the unveiling of their production version of the two-door Jeep Wrangler and four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for the first time in Europe at the recently held Paris Motor Show. The Paris Motor Show is a major event that is held every two years. It is a trend-setting showcase for the automotive industry around the world and it attracts participants from all corners of the globe. The newly demo’ed Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited models are powered by a new 2.8 liter diesel engine and feature a broad array of new off-road features. They will hit European dealer showrooms around April of 2006, and Chrysler feels they’ll be a big hit. Why shouldn’t we believe them? They seem to have an excellent grasp on the European market at the moment.

It is good that Chrysler, an American car manufacturer, and Jeep are making themselves known around the world and realizing some excellent results. Now if only we could get our hands on those diesel powered Wranglers here in the good ole’ USA. Then we all might be happy!

Speaking of happy, we have everything you need for your Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee at XtremeTerrain.com. Quality aftermarket parts like Interior and exterior accessories, suspension and performance parts, restoration and body parts, travel accessories, and much more can be found at our online store. First 4-Wheeling Trip Off Road Tips

Preparing for your first 4-Wheeling trip off road is the first thing to do before driving that truck. Here are some things to do. First and foremost, it is necessary that you recognize the capabilities and limits of your vehicle. It other words, know your vehicle well. Need to know are the works of your 4×4 system, the use of its controls, location of the spare tire and jack and how to use them.

Other than that, the height, width, length, approach angle, departure angle and ramp angle are also a “must know” so that you can pass through tight areas without damage. The lowest point of clearance must also be known. Familiarize all those things and get used to driving your 4×4 and feel its driving characteristics. Included in the familiarization process is the practice use of the low ratio gearbox. Also try its manual locking hubs, if it has.

To know the maximum depth of water that you could cross, know where your engine’s air intake and engine computer are located. Always make assure the maintenance of the filters, belts and hoses and keep all fluids topped up. Make sure to pack all of the appropriate emergency supplies for you will never know when you’ll find yourself stuck or broken down, without someone to help. It’s also necessary to be aware of changing weather conditions. Don’t lie. Let someone know where you’re going so that they’d know where to find you if in case an emergency happen. Also bring with you their phone number, the local sheriff’s phone number.

Your vehicle’s condition is a huge consideration. Be sure it’s ready for the off-road experience. Before going for a trip, do a complete inspection of your vehicle. Make sure that your tires plus the spare are in good condition and inflated properly. Try looking under your vehicle for any leaks or mechanical problems. Also ensure all fluids are topped off and that the condition of your steering and brakes are okay.

Other than those, add cleanliness to your considerations. Make sure no dirt is making your Jeep carpet attractive. All repairs should be carried out before road tripping. Be meticulous on the load of your vehicle. If possible, loads should be evenly distributed within the vehicle. Loads behind the rear axle will sink the rear of the vehicle. As a result, this limits your departure angle and clearance. Be aware of weights and how they are distributed if you have a roof rack fitted. Excessive loads will alter the center-of-gravity, thereby making the vehicle less stable.

Also, take into consideration the additional height of your vehicle due to the rack. Be aware where you are, where you’re going, and which route or direction you intend to take. The general rule here is “allow enough time for safe travel”. Indeed, going on a travel requires a lot of preparation. But it’s all worth it for your safety is assured if you and your vehicle are prepared for the trip.
