Warrior Diamond Plate Corner Guards for Jeep |
| Jeep
corners are
notorious for
rusting, denting
and generally
looking torn
up. If you want
some added protection, Diamond
Plate Corner
Guards are
a solid option.
They offer protection
from rocks and
other obstacles
on the trail
while covering
rust spots and
holes. |
 |
Installing
Diamond Plate
Corners
As
per my usual
protocol, my
first step was
to completely
disregard the
instructions.
In this instance
my tactics actually
worked and saved
me some time
during the install.
The
instructions
said to drill
mounting holes
in the corners
then match up
the corners
to the body,
mark the holes,
remove the corners,
drill the holes,
then rivet them
in. |
| All
the mounting,
marking and
drilling seemed
a bit excessive
to me. Instead,
I used the bolt
holes for the
brake lights
and gas filler
cover as my
guides for mounting
the corners. |
Before
I get carried
away though,
I should mention
the reason many
people install diamond
plate corners...rust.
I had some nasty,
bubbly rust
pockets right
on the seams
of the corner.
To prevent it
from spreading,
I went to work
on the cancer
with a sanding
wheel.
I
sanded
through
the
paint
and
rust
chunks
until
I
reached
shiny
metal.
Then,
just
to
make
sure,
I
used
a
spray-on
chemical
rust
remover
that
essentially
converts
rust
to
a
stable
state
that
won't
spread
(I
hope). |

Back
to the install.
If you haven't
done so already,
remove the gas
filler cover,
brake lights,
license plate
holder, spare
tire stop and
anything else
in way. Next,
place the diamond
plate corner over
the corner and
begin reattaching
the brake lights
and gas filler
cover. This
will ensure
the corners
line up properly.
When
the
brake
lights
are
reinstalled,
use
a
pair
of
clamps
to
secure
the diamond
plate
corners to
the
body.
Take
care
to
make
sure
the
lines
along
the
fender
flares
and
the
body
edges
are
even.
Now
begin
drilling
your
holes.
Space
each
hole
about
6
to
8
inches
apart.
When
all
of
the
holes
are
drilled,
begin
installing
the
pop
rivets.
The
diamond
plate
corners
come
with
rivets,
but
not
a rivet
gun,
so
you'll
have
to
pick
one
up.
I
got
mine
at
Home
Depot
for
$15.
The
rivets
were
very
easy
to
install
and
hold
the
diamond
plate
to
the
body
very
securely. |
 |
Once
all the rivets
were in, I reinstalled
the gas filler
cover and polished
them with some
aluminum wheel
polish. I love
the look. The diamond
plate corners really
stand out against
my paint. And
hopefully they'll
protect my ride
from a rock
or two down
the road.
Warrior
Diamond
Plate
Corner
Guards
are
available
online
for
around
$129 and

with
holes
and
notches
pre-cut
for
the
brake
lights,
gas
filler,
etc. |
